Assange, 3 out 4 charges to be dropped?

The only country that has come out looking worse than the USA for this witchhunt is Sweden.

‘In a few days time, unless something unexpected happens, Julian Assange will no longer be facing three of the four potential charges against him in respect of what happened in Sweden in August 2010.This is because of the Swedish law of limitation which for certain offences means that the suspect has to be charged within five years of the alleged incident….’

Deprecating HTTP: Thank you Edward Snowden

Posted on 2015/05/14 by jd

‘Mozilla recently announced their intent to deprecate the insecure HTTP protocol in Firefox in favor of HTTPS (https://). In practice, they plan to do this by gradually removing the ability for HTTP websites to use various web features. They’re joined by the Chrome security team, who declared something similar in December…’

Jodi.org lives!

Posted on 2015/03/17 - 2015/03/17 by jd

Ten or fifteen plus years back there was jodi.org – a very confusing and artsy website, back in the day when ‘net.art’ seemed like a new idea. Now everyone and everything is somehow internet art.

The artist pushed the limits of browsers of that time – which frequently crashed if too much was happening on-screen at one time.

I had forgotten about jodi.org. But I now noticed that it still exists!….

My only reason to go to ello.

Posted on 2015/03/01 - 2015/03/01 by jd

I gave up on ello.co a long time ago – For me it was a short burst of interest in finding a desperately needed alternative to facebook, but then it just felt like another tumblr. And I could neither ‘like’ nor <3 anything. Bruce Sterling

But there is one reason I do go back, that is Bruce Sterling. I am always interested in what he writes, or when he speaks, and what he posts is almost always some how in synch with me.

Who will remembers us, after we erased ourselves?

Posted on 2015/02/13 - 2015/02/13 by jd

Vint Cerf called for the development of “digital vellum” to preserve old software and hardware so that out-of-date files could be recovered no matter how old they are.

“When you think about the quantity of documentation from our daily lives that is captured in digital form, like our interactions by email, people’s tweets, and all of the world wide web, it’s clear that we stand to lose an awful lot of our history,” he said.

“We don’t want our digital lives to fade away. If we want to preserve them, we need to make sure that the digital objects we create today can still be rendered far into the future,” he added.
